Which Vertical Packing Machine Fits Your Product?

Twelve machines, one operating principle: film wraps around a vertical forming tube, product drops in by gravity, seal jaws form the bag, a cutter separates each unit. The variable is bag format (back-seal, 3-side, 4-side, triangle, pillow, stick), lane count (1, 6, or 10 simultaneous bags), and dosing system (volumetric cup, auger, multi-head weigher, tipping bucket, pendulum, liquid pump). Choose by product type and bag format below.

Multi-Lane Small Sachet Lines

6- to 10-lane configurations that run simultaneous small sachets in parallel — highest throughput for seasoning, salt, sugar, and stick sachets.

Single-Sachet & Specialty Shapes

Single-lane premium sachet machines and the pyramid/triangle specialty line. Lower speed than multi-lane lines, but each pouch is bigger and the sealing pattern is more refined.

SW-2030 Pillow-Pouch Series

Four compact VFFS machines on the shared SW-2030 frame, differentiated by dosing system — pick the filler that matches your product's flow behaviour.

Long Stick Pack Lines

SW-2830 series for long thin single-serve stick-pack sachets — the narrow pouch format used by instant coffee, probiotic supplements, liquid jelly bars, and stick ice pops.

Select By Pouch Type

All twelve vertical machines form bags from rollstock film during the packing cycle. Bag format is determined by the forming collar geometry — switch the collar to switch the format. Film material (OPP/CPP, PET/PE, PA/PE laminate, kraft paper) does not affect compatibility.

How a Vertical Form-Fill-Seal Machine Works

All twelve machines share the same four-step VFFS cycle. The variable is the bag format (the forming collar shape), the dosing system (how product is metered into the tube), and the lane count (one bag at a time or 6–10 bags simultaneously).

01

Film Unwind & Forming

Rollstock film (OPP/CPP, PET/PE, PA/PE, aluminum laminate) unwinds from a shaft at the rear of the machine. It passes over a forming collar that folds the flat web into a continuous vertical tube around the dosing pipe. A photoelectric eye tracks print-registration marks so branded graphics land in the correct position on every bag. Bag format — back-seal, 3-side, 4-side, triangle, pillow, or stick — is determined by the forming collar geometry. Dual-film configurations (SW-C6, SW-1528, and similar) use two webs fed from separate shafts to form a flat 4-side-seal sachet.

02

Product Dosing & Drop

Product enters the forming tube by gravity from the dosing system — volumetric cup for granules and candy, auger screw for powder, multi-head weigher for irregular solids, tipping bucket for fragile large pieces, pendulum head for precision small granules, or a self-flow hopper or piston pump for liquid. The PLC synchronizes dose release with film pull so product arrives at the bag position exactly when the end-seal jaws open.

03

Vertical (Back) Seal

Heated vertical seal bars press the overlapping film edges together along the side of the tube, forming the continuous back seam that gives back-seal sachets their name. On 3-side and 4-side sachet machines, the equivalent vertical seal forms one long edge of the flat sachet. Temperature and pressure are independently adjustable from the HMI so the same machine handles thin OPP/CPP and thicker PA/PE laminates without retooling.

04

End Seal, Cut & Discharge

Horizontal end-seal jaws close across the tube below the product charge, sealing the top of one bag and the bottom of the next in one stroke. A blade within the jaws separates the finished bag. Reciprocating-jaw models (SW-2830B) hold dwell time longer for hermetic aluminum-laminate seals. An optional date coder prints batch number and expiry. Finished bags drop onto an output conveyor or directly into a collection chute. The HMI stores up to 100 product recipes for fast changeover.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Vertical packing machine vs. pillow pouch or premade bag machine — what is the difference?

A vertical packing machine (VFFS) forms bags from rollstock film around a vertical tube and product drops in by gravity — ideal for bulk granule, powder, and liquid that pour freely. A pillow pouch packing machine (HFFS) is horizontal — product rides a conveyor while film wraps around it, used for individually shaped solids (biscuits, candy bars, hardware). A premade bag packing machine does not form bags — it opens, fills, and seals pre-manufactured zipper or stand-up pouches. A collar type machine is a variant of VFFS using an external collar former, typically paired with multi-head weighers for larger fill weights. Choose VFFS for bulk material in sachet, stick, or small pillow bag formats.

Which vertical packing machine should I choose for my product?

Choose by bag format and product flow. For high-volume small sachets (salt, sugar, MSG, creamer): SW-A6 (6-lane 3-side) or SW-B10 (10-lane back-seal). For premium flat 4-side sachets: SW-C6 (6-lane) or SW-1528 (single-lane, liquid or powder). For pyramid tea bags: SW-1022. For granules in pillow bags: SW-2030A. For powder: SW-2030B. For bulky fragile items: SW-2030C. For small precision granules: SW-2030D. For liquid stick-packs: SW-2830A. For powder stick-packs: SW-2830B. For mixed-product modular dosing: SW-1328.

What is the difference between back-seal, 3-side-seal, and 4-side-seal bags?

Back-seal (pillow bag): one long seam down the back of the bag plus top and bottom horizontal seals — most economical film usage, produced by SW-B10 (multi-lane sticks) and the entire SW-2030 series (single-lane pillow pouches). 3-side seal: flat bag with seals on three edges (top, bottom, one side) and a folded edge on the fourth — used for hotel/catering sachets, produced by SW-A6 (6-lane) and SW-1328 (single). 4-side seal: flat bag with seals on all four edges, formed from two film layers — premium appearance and better product protection, produced by SW-C6 (6-lane) and SW-1528 (single). Triangle/pyramid bags (SW-1022) are a specialty format that forms a pyramid shape by diagonally folding and sealing.

What products can a vertical packing machine handle?

Bulk materials that can be dosed by gravity or a metering system: granules (sugar, salt, rice, seeds, nuts, coffee beans, pet food, candy, puffed snacks), powders (flour, spice, instant coffee, milk powder, protein powder, pharmaceutical powder), liquids (jelly, ice pop, beverages, yogurt), and pastes (limited — ketchup, some sauces). Individually shaped solid products (biscuits, candy bars, soap, hardware) are better suited to a horizontal pillow pouch machine. For vacuum-sealed meat, seafood, or cheese in premade pouches, see the premade bag vacuum machine. For spout pouches with screw-cap filling, see the spout pouch filling machine.

What is the speed range across models?

Single-lane VFFS machines run 30–70 bags/min (SW-1022, SW-1328, SW-1528, all SW-2030 models). Stick-pack machines run 40–100 bags/min (SW-2830A, SW-2830B). Multi-lane high-output machines multiply speed by lane count — SW-A6 (6-lane) and SW-C6 (6-lane) run 40–300 bags/min; SW-B10 (10-lane) runs 50–600 bags/min. Actual throughput depends on bag size (smaller bags pack faster), fill weight (heavier fills need more dose time), film thickness (thicker laminates need longer seal dwell), and dosing system (volumetric cup is faster than weigher for same accuracy).

Which model is best for coffee stick sachets?

For 3-in-1 coffee creamer sticks and instant coffee powder sticks: SW-2830B reciprocating powder stick machine — the pneumatic reciprocating sealing jaw holds dwell time long enough for aluminum laminate to form hermetic seals that preserve coffee aroma and prevent moisture ingress. For higher-volume single-lane output, the SW-2030B auger powder machine produces flat coffee sachets in the SW-2030 compact body. For maximum throughput (500+ sticks per minute), the SW-B10 ten-lane machine paired with auger filler produces ten sticks simultaneously.

Can one vertical packing machine handle both liquid and powder?

Only if the dosing system is modular. The SW-1328 supports three interchangeable dosing heads — volumetric cup, auger, and multi-head weigher — switchable during scheduled changeover. The SW-1528 frame ships in two dedicated configurations — SW-1528 with a piston pump for liquid and SW-1528B with an auger screw for powder — one machine per product type. Dedicated-dosing machines (SW-A6, SW-B10, SW-C6, SW-2030 series, SW-2830 series) cannot be converted between liquid and powder without major retrofit. If you run both product types, discuss modular configuration options before ordering.

What film materials are compatible?

OPP/CPP (standard food-grade), PET/PE (printed laminate), PA/PE (high oxygen barrier for moisture-sensitive powders), and aluminum foil laminate (for coffee, pharma, probiotic, dairy powders that need the highest barrier). Film thickness typically 60–80 microns for single-layer, 90–120 microns for laminate. The servo film-pull system handles all listed materials; sealing parameters (temperature, pressure, dwell time) are adjusted on the HMI per material. Send a film sample for sealing test before production.

What are the lead time, payment, and shipping terms?

Lead time: 25–35 working days after deposit confirmation for standard single-lane models; 35–45 working days for multi-lane machines (SW-A6, SW-B10, SW-C6) and dual-film configurations (SW-C6, SW-1528). Payment: 30% deposit, 70% balance before shipment (T/T). Shipping: sea freight FOB Shantou in fumigation-free plywood crate. Factory acceptance test (FAT) with your product sample and film is included — we record video and test data before shipping.

Do you provide installation, training, and spare parts?

Remote video installation support via WhatsApp or video call is included at no extra cost. On-site installation by a ShengWei engineer is available — travel and accommodation are quoted separately. Every machine ships with an English-language operator manual, electrical diagram, and a 500-USD spare parts kit (seal bars, heating elements, temperature sensor, fuses, belts). 24-hour WhatsApp technical support is included for the lifetime of the machine.
