Flat-bottom is the premium-tier coffee format above gusset bag — the rectangular shelf face with kraft-laminate print signals "specialty roaster" while a one-way degassing valve releases CO2 from fresh-roasted beans. Premium Loose-Leaf Tea
Loose-leaf green tea, oolong, herbal blend, matcha. Flat-bottom box pouch with metallized-foil interior is a common premium tea retail format — protects from light and oxygen while presenting elegantly on specialty grocery shelves. When to choose flat-bottom vs alternatives
Flat-bottom box pouch wins on shelf face and premium positioning, but at a higher film cost than a stand-up pouch. For lighter premium SKUs at smaller fills, stand-up pouch is more economical; for heavier fills above 2 kg, side-gusset is structurally stronger. Honest trade-off below.

FAQ
What’s the difference between flat-bottom, K-seal, and block-bottom pouch?
Flat-bottom and block-bottom name the same box-shaped pouch with a rectangular flat base (an 8-side seal bag). K-seal is a different format: a stand-up pouch whose bottom gusset is sealed in a K-shaped pattern at the corners. ShengWei SW-D / L / Y fillers fill premade flat-bottom bags from your converter when the bag width fits the model range.
Can I add a one-way degassing valve for whole-bean coffee?
Yes. Degassing valves are pre-applied to the bag by your bag converter (not by the filling machine) before bags are loaded. SW-D rotary fillers fill premade flat-bottom pouches with or without a converter-applied valve; the bag width must fit the model range (SW-D200 80–200, SW-D250 110–250, SW-D320 180–320 mm). Specify "valve-ready bag" with your converter and ship samples to us for sealing test before commitment.
Why is flat-bottom more expensive than stand-up or gusset?
The flat box base requires more film material and more bag-converter steps than a stand-up pouch’s simple folded gusset or a side-gusset’s side panels. Per-bag film cost runs higher than equivalent stand-up pouch at the same fill weight. For trial sizes and single-serve sachets, 3-side seal is a lower-cost format. The flat-bottom premium is justified for high-shelf-presence SKUs (specialty coffee, premium tea, milk powder) where the rigid-box appearance commands a higher retail price.
Can I add a zipper to a flat-bottom pouch?
Yes — resealable zippers are common on premium loose-leaf tea, sport-nutrition powder, and milk-powder flat-bottom pouches. The zipper is added by your bag converter; SW-D / SW-L machines accept an optional zipper-opening device; with it, the machine opens the zipper, fills below it, and reseals the top. What films and laminates work for flat-bottom pouches?
Kraft / PE laminate for premium specialty coffee & tea (kraft signals natural / specialty positioning), PET/AL/PE foil laminate for high-barrier milk powder and protein powder, metallized PET for lower-cost premium tea, and recyclable mono-PE for sustainable retail SKUs. Can flat-bottom pouches replace traditional baby-formula tin cans?
Yes — some newer infant-formula brands use flat-bottom foil-laminate pouches as an alternative to tin cans: the pouch is lighter than a tin can to ship, and film suppliers are developing mono-PE structures (barrier requirements for formula must be validated with your film supplier). Infant formula is a regulated product: whether an SW-L auger line suits it depends on powder characteristics, the auger dosing configuration, contact materials and dust-control requirements — confirm these with us before you choose a machine.
