SW-350A / 450A / 550A: Horizontal Flow Wrap for Solid Products
The SW-350A, SW-450A, and SW-550A are horizontal form-fill-seal machines that wrap individual solid products in a continuous pillow pouch. Film feeds from a roll mounted behind the machine, forms into a tube around the product on the infeed conveyor, and is sealed with end seals and a back seal — all in a single pass. The result is a tight, professional pillow bag produced at up to 200 bags per minute.
Unlike premade bag packing machines or collar type vertical FFS equipment, the pillow pouch format requires no pre-formed bag supply and suits products with a fixed, regular shape — biscuits, pies, bread, candy bars, soap bars, pharmaceutical blisters, industrial parts, and paper boxes. Three models share the same mechanical platform; the only difference is the product size range and film width capacity. Choose your model by the largest product you plan to pack.
Standard equipment includes a Siemens PLC, servo-driven film feed, two-stage heat sealing with a cooling station, automatic date coding, 100-recipe HMI memory, and SUS304 stainless steel product-contact surfaces. Film compatibility covers OPP/CPP, OPP/PE, PET/PE, NYLON/PE, and plain PE rollstock.

The SW-350A/450A/550A series is designed for regular solid products only. For loose granules or powder, see the collar type packing machine family — including the multi-head weigher model (SW-420A), auger powder model (SW-420E), and liquid model (SW-420F). For premade pouches, see the premade bag packing machine family.
Output Bag Type: Pillow Pouch (Flow Wrap)
The SW-350A/450A/550A produces one bag format: the pillow pouch — also called a flow wrap bag or fin seal bag. Film wraps around each product on the infeed conveyor, a back (fin) seal runs along the underside, and end seals close the front and rear of each bag. No pre-formed bag supply is needed.

Compatible film: OPP/CPP · OPP/PE · PET/PE · NYLON/PE · PE. Send your film sample for sealing parameter confirmation before production.
Note: This machine does not produce stand-up pouches, zipper bags, or flat-bottom bags. For those formats, see the SW-D premade bag granule machine.
How the Horizontal Flow Wrap Cycle Works
The entire wrapping process from film unwind to finished bag discharge takes less than one second at full speed. All steps run continuously — there is no stop-and-start motion on the product conveyor.
01
Product Infeed
Products are placed on the infeed conveyor — manually by one operator or automatically via a robot arm or product placement device. Lugs on the conveyor maintain equal spacing between products, which determines the bag length. A photocell detects missing or misaligned products and triggers an automatic skip cycle to prevent empty bags.
02
Film Forming & Back Seal
Film unwinds from the roll at the rear of the machine and passes over a forming shoulder that wraps it into a tube around the product stream. A heated fin seal wheel seals the two film edges together along the underside of the tube, creating a continuous back seal. The servo-driven film pull ensures exact registration with the print mark on each bag.
03
End Sealing & Cutting
Rotary or reciprocating end seal jaws close across the film tube between each product, applying heat and pressure to form the front and rear seals of each bag simultaneously. A knife built into the jaw set cuts the sealed area to separate finished bags from the film tube. Two-stage sealing with a cooling station ensures strong, wrinkle-free seals even on high-gloss film.
04
Date Coding & Discharge
An optional date coder (inkjet or thermal ribbon) prints the production date, batch number, or expiry date on each bag as it exits the end seal station. Finished bags discharge onto the outfeed conveyor for downstream packing. The HMI panel stores up to 100 product recipes — switching between SKUs takes under two minutes with no tool changes.

Four Core Mechanisms That Drive Reliability
Every SW-350A/450A/550A is built around four mechanical systems that determine packaging quality, film handling consistency, and uptime. Understanding these mechanisms helps you specify the right configuration for your product.
① Touch Screen Control
A 7-inch color HMI displays packing speed, sealing temperature, bag length, and fault codes on a single screen. Up to 100 product recipes can be saved and recalled in seconds — no manual re-tuning when switching between SKUs. Language and unit settings are configurable at the time of order.
② Multi-Linkage Roll Film Shaft
The multi-linkage film winding shaft coordinates film unwinding and film travel simultaneously, keeping tension consistent across the full speed range. Smooth film walk eliminates wrinkling at the back seal and reduces film waste at high speed — particularly important for printed or registered films.
③ Dual-Rail Material Handling Platform
Two side rails plus a center track guide each product through the forming collar without lateral shift. The rail spacing is adjustable for different product widths. This three-point support prevents fragile items — biscuits, soap bars, medical devices — from tipping or jamming mid-run.
④ Rotating Constant-Temperature End Seal
The end seal jaw rotates at a constant temperature rather than cycling heat on and off. This delivers consistent seal strength at full speed and eliminates the cold-jaw problem that causes weak seals during start-up. The embossing pattern is standard; custom seal patterns are available on request.
Branded Components You Can Verify
Every critical component on the SW-350A/450A/550A is sourced from established industrial brands. Part numbers are listed on the quotation sheet so you can verify pricing and availability independently before you order.
Siemens SMART 700 HMI
7-inch colour touch screen. Stores up to 100 product recipes. HMI language configurable: English, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, and others on request.
Siemens S7-200 PLC
CPU224 programmable logic controller. Coordinates film feed, sealing jaws, conveyor, and date coder in real time with fault diagnostics on the HMI screen.
Schneider Frequency Converter
Controls main motor speed for film feed rate adjustment. Smooth acceleration and deceleration protect film integrity at speed changes between product SKUs.
AirTAC Solenoid Valve
Controls pneumatic actuation of end seal jaws and cutting mechanism. High cycle-life rated for continuous two-shift operation without seal pressure degradation.
WINPARK Temperature Controller
PID temperature control for end seal jaws and back seal wheel. Maintains set-point temperature within ±1 °C to ensure consistent seal quality across all film types.
SMC Guide Cylinder
Anti-rotation guided cylinder for end seal jaw actuation. Ensures repeatable jaw alignment and uniform sealing pressure across the full bag width at every cycle.
Pillow Pouch vs Premade Bag — Which Machine Do You Need?
Both machine types produce sealed bags automatically, but they start from different materials and suit different products and production priorities.
Choose Pillow Packing (SW-350A/450A/550A) When:
- Your product has a fixed, regular solid shape that holds its form on a conveyor
- You need the lowest per-bag material cost — rollstock film is cheaper than premade bags
- You run high-volume single-SKU production (up to 200 bags/min)
- You pack biscuits, bread, candy bars, soap, medicine blisters, or similar products
- You want a fast SKU switch without changing pre-formed bag inventory
Choose Premade Bag Machine When:
- You pack loose granules, powder, or liquid that cannot be conveyed on a flat belt
- You need stand-up pouches, zipper bags, or flat-bottom bags for retail display
- Your pouch requires pre-printed high-resolution graphics on all panels
- You run many small batches with frequent bag format changes
When This Machine Is Not the Right Fit
The SW-350A/450A/550A wraps individual solid products only. For loose granules, powders, or liquids, the correct choice is the collar type packing machine family — including the 4-head linear weigher model (SW-320C) and measure cups model (SW-320D/420D). For premade bags or stand-up pouches, use the premade bag packing machine family — including the granule model (SW-D200), powder model (SW-L200), liquid model (SW-Y200), and vacuum model (SW-130ZK). For spout pouches, see the spout pouch filling and capping machine (SW-CCS6).

What Our Clients Say
We installed the SW-450A for wrapping our bread loaves. The machine holds speed well and the seal quality is consistent even with our OPP/CPP film. Switching between our standard and large-size loaf took about 15 minutes the first time — now the operators do it in under 5. The remote support team helped us fine-tune the sealing temperature for our film on the first day.
Hassan R.
Production Manager — Bakery & Food Factory, Egypt
We use the SW-350A to wrap biscuit sleeves at around 120 bags per minute. The machine has been very stable over 18 months of two-shift operation. The Siemens PLC makes troubleshooting straightforward — error codes are displayed directly on the HMI so our technician can diagnose most faults without calling ShengWei. Spare parts arrived in 4 days when we needed sealing strips.
