Product Overview

SW-2830A: Self-Flow Liquid VFFS for Jelly and Beverage Sticks

The SW-2830A is a purpose-built vertical form-fill-seal machine for liquid and semi-liquid products packed in stick or bar shaped sachets. Product flows from a 304 stainless steel hopper through a self-flow (gravity) feeding system into the forming tube, then the vertically-oriented film tube is sealed and cut to produce long thin stick packs. This is the standard format for drinkable jelly, stick ice pops, single-serve flavoured beverages, drinking yogurt, and similar products that set, cool, or are consumed directly from the tube.

The machine runs at 60-100 bags per minute depending on fill volume and bag size. Standard bag length is 50-200 mm, bag width is 40-150 mm, and rollstock film width is up to 280 mm. A frequency converter regulates main motor speed with smooth acceleration, and independent PID temperature control on the longitudinal and cross seal jaws keeps seal strength stable across the laminate films typically used for liquid stick packs. Total power is 1.2 kW on a 220V 50/60 Hz single-phase supply, and the machine weighs approximately 300 kg with a footprint of 1,260 x 980 x 1,940 mm.

For long-grain powder or granular products in stick-pack sachets, the SW-2830B reciprocating stick pack machine is the companion model — it uses a pneumatic reciprocating sealing jaw and serves powders such as sugar, coffee, and bean powder. For flat four-side-seal liquid sachets rather than stick format, see the SW-1528 four-side-seal liquid machine. For pillow-pouch ice pop packaging with horizontal film feeding, see the SW-100 ice pop pillow pouch machine.

Bag Format

Output Bag Type: Stick-Pack / Bar Sachet

The SW-2830A produces long thin stick or bar shaped sachets sealed along the back seam and across both ends. This is the standard format for drinkable jelly, stick ice pops, and single-serve liquid beverages because it is easy to tear open from the end, easy to freeze or chill in volume, and easy to merchandise in pegged retail displays or bulk tray packs.

Machine Operation

How the Self-Flow Stick-Pack Cycle Works

The forming, filling, and sealing sequence runs continuously at 60-100 bags per minute. A frequency converter regulates main motor speed and the sealing jaws cycle at a consistent dwell time. Both liquid feeding and sealing parameters are adjusted from the touch screen.

01

Self-Flow Liquid Feeding

Liquid product is held in a 304 stainless steel hopper above the forming tube. A float or level sensor maintains the working level. Product flows by gravity through the filling pipe into the formed film tube. Fill volume is set by the cycle timing between cross seals, so dosing is repeatable as long as hopper level and product viscosity stay stable.

02

Film Forming & Back Seal

Rollstock film unwinds from the rear holder, passes the double film clamp, and wraps around the forming tube. The longitudinal (back) seal jaw closes the film into a continuous tube. Film pull is driven by a servo motor for accurate bag length, and photoelectric tracking reads the registration mark on pre-printed film so each sachet is cut in the correct position.

03

Cross Sealing & Liquid Discharge

Horizontal cross seal jaws close across the filled tube to form the end seal of the current stick and the start seal of the next. Because the feed path is vertical, liquid naturally settles toward the bottom of the bag for a full, neat stick appearance. Seal temperature, jaw pressure, and dwell time are tuned to the film laminate.

04

Cutting & Discharge

A cutter built into the cross seal jaw separates finished sticks. An easy-tear notch is stamped at the end for clean consumer opening. Sticks can discharge as individual units, as a linked chain for cold-room freezing (ice-pop applications), or onto a downstream conveyor for carton packing. An optional date printer codes production date, batch, and expiry onto each stick during the sealing cycle.

Machine Detail

Four Core Systems That Define Stick-Pack Quality

The SW-2830A is built around four mechanical systems that together determine stick appearance, fill consistency, seal integrity, and maintenance simplicity. Understanding each helps you specify the correct options for your product before quotation.

1. Self-Flow Stainless Hopper

Product feeds the forming tube by gravity from a 304 food-grade stainless steel hopper. The wetted path has no pump seals or valve rings to maintain, which simplifies cleaning between SKUs. Optional cooling jacket, CIP rinse connection, and level sensor are available for dairy and ice-pop applications.

2. Dual-Zone Temperature Control

Two independent PID temperature controllers regulate the longitudinal and cross seal jaws separately. This matters on PET/PE and PA/PE laminates where the back seam and end seals need different temperature and dwell time for a clean, leak-free seal on liquid-filled sticks.

3. Frequency-Controlled Drive

A frequency converter regulates main motor speed with smooth acceleration and deceleration. Speed is adjustable on the HMI rotary control. Smooth starts protect film integrity when switching between SKUs with different stick lengths and fill volumes.

4. Easy-Adjust Operation

Fill volume is set by cycle timing; bag length is set by the servo film pull; seal temperature is set by the two PID controllers. All three parameters adjust from the touch screen without mechanical re-tooling, so operators can switch from a 30 ml beverage stick to an 80 ml jelly bar in minutes.

Decision Guide

Stick-Pack vs Flat Sachet vs Pillow Pouch - Which Format Fits?

Liquid single-serve products can be packed in three common formats. Choose based on consumer experience, shelf presentation, and downstream freezing or cold-chain handling.

Choose SW-2830A Stick-Pack When:

  • Your product is drinkable jelly, stick ice pop, flavoured beverage, or drinking yogurt
  • Consumer experience requires tearing open the end and drinking directly from the stick
  • You need a long thin sachet that freezes efficiently in bulk trays
  • Your fill volume is 10-150 ml and bag length is 50-200 mm
  • You want a simple self-flow hopper with no pump seals to maintain

Choose a Different Format When:

When This Machine Is Not the Right Fit

The SW-2830A is a dedicated liquid stick-pack VFFS. It is not the right platform for powder or granule products (use the SW-2830B reciprocating stick pack machine or an auger-fed vertical machine instead), flat four-side-seal sachets (use the SW-1528), premade stand-up pouches (use the premade bag packing machine family), or spouted pouches (use the SW-CCS6 spout pouch filling and capping machine). For large-bag horizontal pillow-pouch ice pops, see the SW-100 ice pop pillow pouch machine.

Client Feedback

What Our Clients Say

We run the SW-2830A on a drinkable jelly line with 80 ml sticks. The self-flow hopper is very easy to clean between flavour changes and we don't deal with pump seals like we used to on our old piston-fill machine. Output hits 80 bags per minute during stable runs. The dual temperature controllers were necessary for our PET/PE laminate - the end seals needed a higher temperature than the back seam and the independent controllers solved it on the first day of installation.

Siti R.

Production Manager - Jelly Snack Co-Packer, Indonesia

We bought the SW-2830A for stick ice pops in 40 ml and 80 ml formats for export to supermarket chains in the GCC. Linked-bag output was important for us because we freeze the linked chain in bulk trays before cartoning - it saves us a separation step. The machine has been stable for fourteen months of daily operation and we have only replaced the sealing strip once on schedule.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What products can the SW-2830A pack?

The SW-2830A is designed for free-flowing liquid and semi-liquid products packed in stick or bar shaped sachets. Typical products include drinkable jelly, konjac jelly, fruit jelly bars, stick ice pops, flavoured water, juice shots, isotonic drinks, herbal tonics, drinking yogurt, and probiotic drinks. Very viscous paste, products with large particles or fibres, dry powder, or granular solids are not suitable for this platform - use an alternative machine configuration instead.

How does the self-flow feeding work and how accurate is dosing?

Product flows from the 304 stainless steel hopper to the forming tube by gravity. Fill volume is set by the cycle timing between cross seals - a longer dwell means more product enters the stick. Accuracy depends on hopper level stability and product viscosity. For single-serve drinkable products in the 10-150 ml range, cycle-timed self-flow is consistent enough for most applications. If your project needs strict fill-volume tolerance, we recommend a sample packing test so dosing is calibrated before shipment.

What is the difference between SW-2830A and SW-2830B?

Both are compact stick-pack VFFS machines with similar footprints. The SW-2830A is a liquid stick-pack machine with a self-flow stainless hopper for jelly, beverages, and yogurt. The SW-2830B is a reciprocating stick-pack machine with a pneumatic intelligent sealing system and is designed for less-sticky powders and granular materials such as sugar, coffee, bean powder, and probiotics. The SW-2830B also offers multiple cutting shapes (zigzag, flat, rounded) for visual variation on the stick end.

What bag sizes and film widths are supported?

Bag length is 50-200 mm, bag width is 40-150 mm, and rollstock film width is up to 280 mm. Changing bag width requires replacing the forming tube and sealing mould (both are cut to the target bag width). A standard size set is included with the machine and additional sizes are available as accessories. For bag lengths beyond 200 mm or for high-speed multi-lane production, use a collar type or multi-lane platform instead.

What film materials are compatible?

Compatible films include OPP/CPP, PET/PE, PA/PE, and aluminum foil laminate. For freezable products (ice pops) we recommend laminates with good low-temperature seal integrity so the end seals do not crack during the freeze cycle. Maximum film width is 280 mm. Send a sample of your film before production so sealing temperature, dwell time, and cutting quality can be confirmed - this is especially important for laminates where the back seam and end seals often need different temperatures.

What voltage and HMI language options are available?

Standard voltage is 220V 50/60 Hz single phase. Total power draw is only 1.2 kW so no three-phase supply is required. Other voltages are available on request - specify at the time of order. The HMI touch screen supports standard languages including English, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, French, Portuguese, and Chinese, with additional languages configurable if you supply the translation strings. Both voltage and language must be confirmed before we begin production.

Can I freeze the finished sticks in linked chains?

Yes. The SW-2830A supports linked-bag output where finished sticks come off as a connected chain rather than as individual cut sticks. This is the standard method for ice pop and freezable jelly production - the chains are transferred to bulk cold-room trays for freezing, then separated at the end of the process. Both individual-cut and linked-bag modes can be selected on the touch screen.

Can I add a date printer or cooling jacket?

Yes. A thermal ribbon date printer can be mounted to code production date, batch number, and expiry onto each stick during the sealing cycle. A cooling jacket can be fitted to the stainless hopper for pre-cooled jelly or dairy products that would otherwise set at the filling temperature. Both options must be specified before production so the frame and wiring are prepared correctly.

What is the lead time and payment terms?

Standard lead time is 20-30 working days after deposit confirmation. Payment: 30% deposit on order, 70% balance before shipment (T/T). Custom configurations such as cooling jacket, CIP connection, non-standard voltage, or special HMI language may add 5-10 working days. The SW-2830A is a compact single-unit machine so sea freight is economical; air freight is available for urgent orders.

Can I send a product sample for a packing test?

Yes. Ship approximately 1-2 L of your liquid product (refrigerated if required) and your rollstock film (or a sample bag) to our Shantou factory. We run a packing test on the actual SW-2830A, record a video of the stick-pack result, and share it along with recommended sealing parameters, fill-volume cycle timing, and any configuration adjustments needed. This is the most reliable way to confirm machine suitability and stick-pack appearance before committing to an order. Contact us for the shipping address and sample instructions.
