Zipper Pouch Packing Machines
A "zipper pouch" is any flexible bag with a press-to-close zipper added to the top — stand-up doypack, 3-side seal sachet, flat-bottom box pouch, or side-gusset bag can all carry a zipper. ShengWei’s 3 premade-bag rotary fillers accept an optional zipper-opening device: open zipper → fill below the zipper line → seal the top edge above zipper. Filling speed 16–50 bags/min depending on the bag format and filler type.

Zipper Pouch — Quick Reference
| Definition | Not a bag shape but a closure module — a press-to-close zipper applied to any premade pouch (stand-up, 3-side seal, flat-bottom, or side-gusset) so the consumer can reseal between uses. |
|---|---|
| Best for | Daily-use retail SKUs that need reseal — coffee, snacks, nuts, pet food, candy, granola, dry kibble. Filling speed 16–50 bags/min. |
| Machine match | ShengWei premade-bag rotary fillers with the optional zipper-opening device — SW-D / SW-L / SW-Y families. |
| Limitations | Zipper adds per-bag cost; only premade-bag formats support it (rollstock pillow/stick lines do not); not suited to one-time-use single-serve sachets. |
Zipper goes on whichever bag your product needs.
Below are four real retail SKUs that all use a press-to-close zipper — on three different bag types. The zipper is the resealable closure; the bag underneath is whatever shape suits the product. ShengWei machines fill any of these four configurations on the same SW-D / L / Y lineup — the zipper-opening station is identical regardless of bag base format.
Stand-Up Pouch + Zipper
Whole-bean coffee, ground coffee. Stand-up doypack + zipper is a common specialty-coffee retail format — bag stands on shelf, zipper reseals between brews, optional one-way valve releases CO2. SW-D series for whole beans; SW-L series (auger) for ground coffee.
Stand-Up Pouch + Zipper
Pet treats, jerky, freeze-dried biscuits, dry cat food. Daily-use SKUs need reseal between feeds — zipper on stand-up doypack is the premium pet-care retail standard. SW-D multi-head weigher fills the bag through the open zipper.
3-Side Seal Sachet + Zipper
Gummies, hard candy, jelly bites, coated peanuts. The flat 3-side seal sachet with zipper turns an impulse-buy single-pack into a daily-use reseal SKU — common for kids candy and trail-mix snacks where parents want shelf-life control.
Side-Gusset Bag + Zipper
Dry pet food kibble (1.5–5 kg), premium ground coffee, organic grain. The side-gusset bag with zipper holds heavy fills upright on shelf while the zipper reseals the top — the gold standard for premium pet food and bulk specialty SKUs.
Three ShengWei machines fill zipper pouches.
All three are the same 8-station rotary premade-bag rotary fillers used for non-zipper retail bags — the zipper-opening device is an option on the SW-D / L / Y series, switched on or off at the touch screen. Pick by what you’re packing.
Granule Filler with Zipper Module
8-station rotary filler with zipper-opening station for granular product in zipper bags — coffee beans, dry pet food kibble, candy, nuts, snacks, granola. Multi-head weigher fills 30 g to 5 kg through the open zipper. Three model variants 200 / 250 / 320 mm cover sachet to large retail widths.

Powder Filler with Zipper Module
Servo-driven auger filler with zipper-opening station for fine powder in zipper bags — protein powder, milk powder, coffee creamer, supplement mix. An optional dust collector can be added for fine powder. Three bag-width variants 200 / 250 / 320 mm.

Liquid Filler with Zipper Module
Piston pump filler with zipper-opening station for sauces, jam, honey, oils, syrup in zipper bags — less common than granule / powder zipper applications, but used for premium gourmet refill SKUs. Anti-drip nozzle prevents spillage.
View Liquid Filler →Three zipper closure types.
All three zipper types are pre-applied to the bag by your bag converter (not by the filling machine) before bags are loaded into the SW-D / L / Y magazine. With the zipper-opening device fitted, the machine opens press-to-close zippers automatically; whether it can open a slider or child-resistant zipper depends on the bag — no machine reconfiguration needed when switching between zipper types.
| Zipper Type | Closure Mechanism | Common Applications | Cost vs Standard Bag |
|---|---|---|---|
| Press-to-Close | Two interlocking plastic profiles, push to seal | Coffee, snacks, candy, pet treats — the most common zipper type | a low premium |
| Slider Zipper | Plastic slider tab moves along the zipper track | Premium retail SKUs, deli, baking ingredients | a moderate premium |
| Child-Resistant | Press-to-close with stiff resistance threshold | Household chemical refills and similar products | a higher premium |
When to choose zipper closure vs alternatives.
A zipper is one of several common ways to open a flexible pouch. Pick the closure based on contents and use frequency — daily-use solid foods love zippers, while single-use sachets stay tear-notch. Honest closure-type comparison below.
Zipper Closure
- Resealable for daily-use solids and powders
- Goes on stand-up / 3-side / gusset / flat-bottom
- an added bag cost that varies by zipper type
- About 3–5 bags/min slower with the zipper opener on
- Optional device on SW-D / L / Y

FAQ
Is "zipper pouch" a bag type or a feature?
It’s a feature, not a bag type. The zipper is a closure mechanism added to the top of a premade-bag pouch — stand-up doypack, 3-side seal sachet, side-gusset bag, or flat-bottom box pouch can carry a zipper (rollstock pillow/stick lines do not support it). Industry buyers typically search "zipper pouch packing machine" when they mean "I need a machine that can fill bags with a zipper closure" — which is exactly what the SW-D / L / Y premade-bag fillers do.
Do I need a different machine to fill a zipper bag vs a non-zipper bag?
No. The same SW-D / L / Y premade-bag rotary fillers run zipper and non-zipper bags interchangeably. The zipper-opening device is an option: the operator switches it on for zipper bags and off for plain bags at the touch screen, so changing between plain and zipper bags of the same size takes about 0 minutes. With the device on, it opens the zipper and the next station fills below the zipper line.
What zipper types are supported?
Three types: press-to-close (most common, two interlocking plastic profiles), slider zipper (premium plastic slider tab), and child-resistant (press-to-close with stiff resistance threshold for household chemicals and similar products). The zipper-opening device opens press-to-close zippers automatically; whether it can open a slider or child-resistant zipper depends on the bag. The fixed gripper position sets the zipper position, and switching zipper types needs no machine reconfiguration. See the §5 zipper types table above for application and cost comparison.
Does adding a zipper slow down the filling speed?
Yes. With the zipper-opening device switched on, the same machine and bag size run about 3–5 bags/min slower — for example, roughly 25–35 bags/min instead of 30–40 (an illustration, not a guaranteed rate). On the SW-D series (rated 16–50 bags/min for non-zipper bags), plan zipper-SKU output with that difference in mind.
Can I run K-seal stand-up pouches with a zipper?
Yes. K-seal stand-up pouches — and flat-bottom box pouches, a different box-shaped format — commonly carry a zipper for premium specialty coffee, loose-leaf tea, sport nutrition. The zipper-opening station handles K-seal pouches the same way as standard doypacks — you just need to specify K-seal bag template at quote stage so we set the gripper spacing correctly for the wider base.
What films work with zipper pouches?
Standard premade-bag films — PET/PE, PET/AL/PE foil laminate, kraft paper laminate, recyclable mono-PE/PP, and metallized films from 60–150 micron thickness all support zipper application. The zipper itself is HDPE or PP, color-matched to the bag print. Ship sample bags with your zipper to our Guangdong factory for a sealing test before order — we run the actual SW-D / L machine to verify zipper-opening reliability with your specific zipper-bag combination. For a comparison of the heat-seal, impulse, and ultrasonic methods used to close the top edge above the zipper line — and what seal integrity testing looks like in practice — see our bag sealing methods guide.
How is a zipper pouch packing machine quoted?
Per configuration, not from a list. The quote depends on the filler your product needs (granule, powder or liquid), the bag-width variant, and custom options such as special voltage or a multi-language HMI. Send your product type, bag dimensions, zipper type and target output, and our engineers usually reply within one business day with a sized quote and a layout drawing. To see what moves a quote up or down and what to prepare before you ask, read our packaging machine price guide.
Lead time and payment terms?
Standard lead time 15–30 working days from deposit confirmation to FOB Shantou for any of the 3 SW-D / L / Y machines, built at ShengWei’s Guangdong factory. Payment: 30% deposit, 70% before shipment by T/T. Deep-custom builds run longer — up to 45 working days, depending on complexity. Sea freight transit: SE Asia 7–14 days, Middle East 18–25 days, Europe 30–40 days.
Can I run a sample test with my actual zipper bags?
Yes — this is especially recommended for zipper bags because zipper-opening reliability depends on the specific zipper profile and bag-converter quality. Ship 50–100 sample bags with your zipper attached, plus 2–5 kg of your product, to our Shantou factory. ShengWei runs a packing test on the actual SW-D / L / Y machine matching your spec, records video of the zipper-open-fill-seal cycle, and shares results with recommended speed and torque settings. Reach our sales team via the contact page for the shipping address.
