Product Overview

SW-150: Film Back Feeding Flow Wrap for Sticky and Soft Products

The SW-150 is a horizontal flow wrap (pillow pouch) packing machine with a distinctive film path: the film roll is mounted at the rear of the machine and the film travels over the top of the product from above, rather than sliding underneath it. This "film back feeding" layout — sometimes called upper-film or rear-film horizontal flow pack — exists specifically for products that cannot be placed on an under-film conveyor without smearing, sticking, deforming, or losing their shape. Typical clients run preserved fruit slices, hawthorn flakes, candied fruits, soft jelly candy, fruit jelly sticks, mochi, moon cake, traditional Asian confectionery, fresh pre-cut fruit and vegetable packs, and soft bakery where the product is placed gently onto a belt and the film descends from above.

Compared with the under-film layout used on the SW-350B film beneath feeding machine, the SW-150 keeps the forming shoulder above the product path so nothing is dragged across a moving film surface. For operators loading hand-trimmed candied fruit or sliced persimmons by hand, this is the difference between clean pouches and constant smearing. The rest of the mechanical platform — servo-driven film pull, PLC touch-screen control, pneumatic end-seal jaws, SUS304 stainless steel contact surfaces — is shared across the ShengWei pillow machine family, so spare parts and operator training carry over from other ShengWei pillow models on the same factory floor.

The SW-150 is not a liquid filler and not a high-speed candy wrapper. For room-temperature liquid dosing into pillow pouches, use the SW-100 ice pop liquid pillow packing machine. For single-piece hard candy and gummy wrapping at up to 1,200 pieces/min, use the SW-1200 three-servo high-speed machine. For general solid product flow wrap (biscuits, bread, soap, pharmaceutical blisters, hardware) on a standard under-film conveyor, use the SW-350A/450A/550A multifunctional pillow packing machine.

The SW-150 handles solid or semi-solid products only. For room-temperature liquid into pillow pouches (ice pop, sugar water, jelly solution), see the SW-100 liquid pillow machine. For high-speed candy wrapping at 1,000+ pieces/min, see the SW-1000A candy tray machine or the SW-1200 three-servo machine. For rigid product (biscuits, bread, soap, hardware) on an under-film conveyor, see the SW-350A multifunctional pillow machine.

Bag Format

Output Pouch Type: Pillow Pouch with Fin Seal Back

The SW-150 produces a single pouch format — a horizontal pillow pouch (also called a flow pack pouch or fin seal pouch). Film unwinds from the rear roll and descends from above onto the product path. A heated fin-seal wheel joins the two film edges along the underside of the tube, forming a back seal, while end-seal jaws close the front and rear of each pouch around the product. No pre-formed bag supply is required — the machine forms the pouch directly from rollstock film as each product passes through.

Compatible film: OPP/CPP · OPP/PE · PET/PE · BOPP · composite heat-seal film. Preserved fruit and jelly candy lines usually run OPP/CPP for cost, while fresh produce lines prefer PET/PE or composite films for higher barrier and shelf life. Send your film sample for sealing parameter confirmation before production.

Note: This machine does not produce stand-up pouches, zipper bags, or flat-bottom bags. For premade stand-up or zipper pouch packing, see the SW-D200 premade bag granule machine.

Machine Operation

How the SW-150 Film Back Feeding Cycle Works

The full cycle — product infeed, film forming from above, fin seal back, end seal, cutoff, discharge — runs continuously. The key difference from a conventional under-film flow wrapper is the film path: film is never placed beneath the product, so soft, sticky, or wet items are never dragged across a moving film surface.

01

Product Infeed

Products are placed on the infeed conveyor one at a time — either by hand (most common for hawthorn slices, candied fruits, jelly cups, mochi, moon cake) or by a pre-synced chain conveyor for uniform items. Because the film has not yet arrived from above, the product sits on a clean belt surface and nothing is smeared, crushed, or dragged. Spacing between products is fixed by the belt flight or by operator pacing and determines the final pouch length on a 1:1 basis.

02

Film Descends & Forms Tube

The rollstock film unwinds from the rear-mounted shaft and passes over a forming shoulder that folds it into a tube descending from above onto the product path. The servo-driven film pull maintains exact print-mark registration so branded graphics, flavour names, barcodes, and best-before panels land in the correct position on every pouch. Because the film approaches from above, there is no contact between product and film until after the tube is formed — the root cause of smearing on under-film machines.

03

Fin Seal Back & End Seal

A heated fin-seal wheel joins the two film edges along the underside of the formed tube, creating the continuous back seal. As each product passes, pneumatic end-seal jaws close in front of and behind it to form the two cross seals that bracket the pouch. Jaw temperature, dwell time, and pressure are adjustable from the HMI touch screen, so the same machine handles thin OPP/CPP film for preserved fruit and heavier PET/PE for fresh produce without retooling.

04

Cutoff & Discharge

A cutoff knife built into the end-seal jaw set separates each finished pouch from the next. An optional date coder prints batch and expiry data on the seal, and finished pouches discharge onto the outfeed conveyor for manual collection, weight check, or feed into a downstream case packer. The HMI stores product recipes so switching between preserved fruit, soft jelly, mochi, and fresh produce runs takes only a recipe recall and a minor belt adjustment.

Machine Detail

Four Core Mechanisms Built for Back Feeding Flow Wrap

The SW-150 is built around four mechanical systems that together determine its suitability for soft, sticky, and delicate products. Understanding each one helps you specify the right configuration for preserved fruit, jelly candy, fresh produce, or soft bakery production.

① Touch Screen Control

A colour HMI displays packing speed, sealing temperature, pouch length, end-seal dwell time, and fault codes on a single screen. Product recipes can be saved and recalled in seconds — no manual re-tuning when switching between preserved fruit, soft jelly, and fresh produce runs. Language and unit settings are configurable at the time of order.

② Rear-Mounted Roll Film Shaft

The rear film shaft positions the full rollstock supply behind the forming shoulder, so film descends from above onto the product path. This is the defining feature of the machine — it eliminates the film-on-conveyor layout that causes smearing on sticky products. Film tension is maintained by a servo-driven pull system that keeps the web flat and print registration exact even at full speed.

③ Gentle Material Handling

The infeed belt is sized and tensioned for hand placement — operators can place soft jelly cubes, hawthorn slices, and fresh fruit onto the belt without crushing them. Belt speed is matched to the film pull via a single servo drive, so product spacing and pouch length stay locked throughout the run. Chain conveyor and vibratory tray infeed options are available for automated feeding of uniform pieces.

④ Firm Sealing System

A heated fin-seal wheel forms the continuous back seal along the underside of the film tube, while pneumatic end-seal jaws close the front and rear of each pouch with adjustable pressure and dwell. Sealing temperature is independently controlled for top and bottom jaws so heat-sensitive films (BOPP, thin OPP/CPP) can run without burning, and heavier laminates (PET/PE, composite) can run without cold seals. A cutoff knife built into the jaw set separates each finished pouch cleanly.

Decision Guide

SW-150 vs Other Pillow Packing Machines — Which Do You Need?

Several ShengWei pillow packing machines share the same mechanical platform. The SW-150 is the only one with rear-mounted film — that one change in film path makes it the right choice for sticky, soft, or delicate products, and the wrong choice for most rigid items. Compare below before you order.

Choose SW-150 When:

  • Your product is sticky, soft, moist, or delicate — hawthorn flakes, candied fruit, soft jelly, mochi, moon cake, fresh fruit and vegetable slices
  • You need the film to descend from above instead of sliding under the product to avoid smearing, crushing, or deformation
  • Pouches are formed on-demand from rollstock film (no premade bag supply)
  • Speed target is moderate — 40–230 bags per minute (not high-speed single-piece candy wrapping)
  • Your product fits within L 40–240 mm, W 80–200 mm, H 10–50 mm
  • Film supply is OPP/CPP, OPP/PE, PET/PE, BOPP, or composite heat-seal film up to 450 mm wide

Choose SW-350A/450A/550A When:

  • Your product is rigid and dry — biscuits, bread, soap, pharmaceutical blisters, hardware, stationery
  • An under-film conveyor layout works fine (no sticky/soft material smearing)
  • You need three model size options to cover a wider product length range up to 500 mm
  • You prefer the more common flow wrap configuration for operator training and maintenance familiarity

When This Machine Is Not the Right Fit

The SW-150 wraps solid or semi-solid pieces only — it does not dose liquid, weigh granules, or meter powder. For room-temperature liquid into sealed pillow pouches (ice pop, sugar water, jelly solution), use the SW-100 liquid pillow packing machine. For high-speed single-piece hard candy or gummy wrapping at up to 1,200 pcs/min, use the SW-1200 three-servo machine. For small candies fed from a sorting tray into pillow pouches at up to 500 bags/min, use the SW-1000A candy tray machine. For twin-material candy lines, see the SW-1000B double material feeding machine. For the under-film (film beneath feeding) sibling that handles rigid product flow wrap, see the SW-350B film beneath feeding machine. For turntable-fed pillow packing lines, see the SW-300A turntable line and the SW-300B tidying feeding line. For granules weighed into vertical sachets, use the SW-420A collar type multi-head weigher machine. For premade granule stand-up pouches, vacuum bags, or liquid pouches, see the SW-D200 premade bag granule machine, SW-130ZK premade bag vacuum machine, and SW-Y200 premade bag liquid machine.

Client Feedback

What Our Clients Say

We run a preserved hawthorn flake and candied fruit line and we had constant smearing and fruit sticking to the film on our old under-film flow wrapper. We switched to the SW-150 because the film comes from above — the fruit slices sit on a clean belt and the film descends onto the product only at the sealing stage. Smearing is gone, the pouches look clean, and our reject rate dropped from about 4% to under 0.5%. Throughput at 160 bags per minute matches our hand-placement pace perfectly.

Li W.

Production Lead — Preserved Fruit Factory, China

We use the SW-150 for soft jelly candy and fruit jelly sticks. The rear film layout was the right choice for us because the jelly is soft enough to deform if we drag it on a film conveyor. Setup was straightforward and the ShengWei team walked us through sealing temperature settings for our OPP/CPP film over a video call. The machine runs full shifts without stopping and the operators can switch product recipes in under two minutes.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "film back feeding" actually mean?

The rollstock film is mounted at the rear of the machine (behind the product infeed direction) and the film travels over the top of the product path, descending onto the product from above. On a conventional horizontal flow wrapper — for example the SW-350B film beneath feeding machine — the product is placed directly on top of the film and the film folds up around it. Back feeding reverses this: the product sits on a clean belt surface first, and the film arrives from above only at the point of tube forming. The layout exists for products that would smear, deform, or stick to the film on a conventional under-film conveyor.

What products can the SW-150 pack?

The SW-150 is purpose-built for sticky, soft, or delicate solid products. Typical applications include preserved fruit slices (hawthorn flakes, dried persimmons, candied fruit), soft jelly candy, fruit jelly sticks, mochi, moon cake, traditional Asian confectionery, pre-cut fresh fruit and vegetable packs, and soft bakery. Product dimensions must fit within length 40–240 mm, width 80–200 mm, and height 10–50 mm. For liquid fills, use the SW-100 ice pop liquid pillow machine instead.

How does the SW-150 compare with the SW-350B film beneath feeding machine?

The two machines share most of the mechanical platform but differ in film path. On the SW-350B, film arrives from below and the product is placed directly on top of it — the film then folds up around the product. On the SW-150, film arrives from above and the product sits on a clean conveyor — the film descends onto the product only at the tube forming stage. Choose the SW-350B for standard solid product wrapping where an under-film layout is fine. Choose the SW-150 when sticky, soft, or delicate products would smear, deform, or stick to the under-film conveyor.

What is the packing speed and what affects throughput?

The SW-150 runs at 40–230 bags per minute. Actual throughput depends on product size (smaller products allow more per minute at the same film speed), infeed method (automatic belt or chain infeed is faster than hand placement), and film type (heavier laminates need longer jaw dwell time). For preserved fruit runs with hand placement, clients typically operate at 120–160 bags/min; for smaller soft jelly cubes on an automatic sorter, 180–230 bags/min is achievable. For a realistic output estimate based on your specific product and infeed, contact us with your target daily output.

What film materials are compatible?

The SW-150 is compatible with OPP/CPP, OPP/PE, PET/PE, BOPP, and composite heat-seal films up to 450 mm in width. OPP/CPP is the most common choice for preserved fruit and soft jelly due to cost. PET/PE or composite laminates are preferred for fresh produce and extended-shelf-life applications because of their higher barrier. Sealing temperature, dwell time, and pneumatic jaw pressure are all adjustable via the HMI touch screen. We strongly recommend sending a sample of your actual rollstock film so we can run a sealing test before production and provide confirmed HMI settings for your film.

What is the lead time and payment terms?

Standard lead time is 20–30 working days after deposit confirmation. Payment: 30% deposit on order, 70% balance before shipment (T/T). Custom configurations — non-standard voltage, chain conveyor infeed, factory-installed date coder, or vibratory tray infeed add-on — may add 5–10 working days. Contact us with your configuration requirements for a confirmed production schedule and quotation.

Can the voltage and HMI language be customized?

Yes. Standard voltage is 220V 50/60 Hz, which covers most global markets. Three-phase 380V configurations are available on request. The HMI touch screen supports English, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Portuguese, French, and other languages on request — specify at the time of order. Both voltage and language should be confirmed before we begin production so that the machine arrives ready for your site.

What warranty and after-sales support is included?

2-year warranty covering manufacturing defects under normal operation and maintenance. Consumable wear parts (sealing strips, heating elements, cutting blades, belt sections) are excluded from warranty as expected. Spare parts ship from our Guangdong factory within 3 working days. Remote video technical support via WhatsApp or video call is free for the lifetime of the machine — not limited to the warranty period. On-site installation and operator training are available on request with travel costs quoted separately.

Can I send a product sample for a packing test before ordering?

Yes. Ship a sample of your product (preserved fruit slices, jelly candy, mochi, fresh produce, or whatever you intend to pack) and your rollstock film to our Shantou factory. We will run a live packing test on the SW-150, record a video of the result, and share it along with the recommended sealing temperature, dwell time, and HMI recipe settings for your exact product and film combination. Contact us for the shipping address and sample instructions.
