What product categories use 3-side seal sachets?
Single-serve, trial-size, and hospitality formats dominate the 3-side seal market — any product where bag cost per unit matters more than premium shelf appeal. Below are the four largest 3-side seal product categories on ShengWei lines, each mapping to a specific filling system in the lineup.
Spice & Seasoning
Chili powder, salt, sugar, MSG, ground spices, soup base. The largest 3-side seal segment by volume — runs on auger powder lines (SW-420E) at 25–60 bags/min in 30–200 g sachets.
Snack & Biscuit
Stick biscuits, mini crackers, coated peanuts, wafers, cereal bars. Multi-head weigher (SW-420A series) handles fragile snacks at 30–80 bags/min in 50–300 g portion bags.
Dried Fruit & Nuts
Trail mix, raisins, mango slices, cashews, granola in 30–200 g impulse-buy sachets. Linear weigher or measure cup (SW-320C / SW-320D) at 30–70 bags/min.
Candy & Confectionery
Gummies, hard candy, jelly bites, fruit chews. Zipper-reseal option on 3-side seal converts an impulse pack into a daily-use SKU — see zipper pouch machines for the configuration.
Ten ShengWei machines produce 3-side seal sachets.
Two production routes deliver the same 3-side seal sachet. Collar-type lines draw rollstock film over a metal collar, form the bag around it, and fill in a single rotary action — ideal for medium-speed sachet production with versatile filling systems. Vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) lines form the bag from rollstock and fill in a continuous downward pass — ideal for high-speed multi-lane production. Pick by speed, lane count, and filler type.
Multi-Head Granule Weigher
10 or 14-head combination weigher with vibration trays for fragile snacks — chips, biscuits, candy, nuts, coated peanuts. Pre-forms the bag from rollstock film over a metal collar, then fills in a single rotary cycle. Three model variants 420 / 620 / 820 mm cover sachet to mid-size bag widths.

FAQ
What’s the smallest sachet size you can run on a 3-side seal machine?
On the SW-A6 multi-lane VFFS, individual sachets can go down to 30×50 mm with 1–5 g fill (sugar / salt / coffee creamer single-serves). Collar-type single-lane machines (SW-420 series) start at 50×60 mm. Below 30 mm width, consider 4-side seal stick packs instead — see our 4-side seal stick pack page.
Can I run liquid in 3-side seal sachets?
Yes. The SW-420F collar-type liquid machine and the SW-A6 multi-lane vertical both fill liquids and viscous sauces (ketchup, salad dressing, oil, soy sauce, jam) in 3-side seal sachets. Piston pumps and time-pressure fillers are both available depending on your viscosity. Pillow-pouch fin-seal is the alternative for very-high-speed liquid; see back-seal pillow pouch.
How does collar-type compare to vertical form-fill-seal for 3-side seal output?
Collar-type lines (SW-420 series) draw the film over a metal collar, fill in a rotary cycle, and run 25–80 bags/min single-lane. Vertical form-fill-seal lines (SW-A6, SW-1328, SW-2830B) form the bag from rollstock in a continuous downward pass and run 30–150 bags/min, with multi-lane configurations multiplying lane output. Pick collar-type for versatile single-lane sachets up to 320 mm width, vertical for high-speed multi-lane single-serve. See collar-type machines and vertical machines categories.
Can a 3-side seal sachet have a zipper for resealable hospitality items?
Yes — gummy candy, chewy snacks, dried fruit, and pet treats all use 3-side seal with press-to-close zippers. The zipper is added to the rollstock film by your bag converter or as an in-line module on the machine. See our zipper pouch packing machine page for the zipper module configuration and supported zipper types.
What films and laminates work with 3-side seal sachets?
3-side seal sachets accept PET/PE, PET/AL/PE (foil laminate for high-barrier), kraft paper laminate (for premium positioning), recyclable mono-PE, OPP/PE for low-cost SKUs, and metallized films from 50–120 micron thickness. Sealing temperature, jaw pressure, and dwell time are all adjustable per film type via the HMI. Ship a sample bag and product to our Guangdong factory for a sealing test before commitment.
What’s the typical cost per sachet?
3-side seal has the lowest film cost of any flexible format — typically USD 0.005–0.015 per bag at standard 1–10 g fill weight, depending on film grade, print, and order volume. Cost scales with bag size, barrier requirements, and zipper option. Multi-lane high-speed lines (SW-A6) reduce labor cost per bag substantially compared to single-lane.
Lead time and payment terms?
Standard lead time 25–35 working days from deposit confirmation to FOB Shantou for any of the 10 machines. Payment: 30% deposit, 70% before shipment by T/T. Custom configurations (special voltage, multi-language HMI, additional weighing stations, zipper modules) may add 5–10 days. Sea freight transit: SE Asia 7–14 days, Middle East 18–25 days, Europe 30–40 days. ShengWei has been building these lines in Guangdong since 2003.
Can I run a sample test before commitment?
Yes. Ship 2–5 kg of your product (powder, granule, liquid, or solid) plus a sample bag to our Shantou factory. ShengWei runs a packing test on the actual machine, records video of the run, and shares results with recommended speed and fill settings. Reach our sales team via the contact page for the shipping address.
